How do you measure your success as an OBM business? Most, if not all of us, probably dream about being able to successfully scale our OBM biz, whether it’s a full-fledged agency or a small team of awesome VAs and other OBMs to help us with our day to day operations. But where do we start? Read on to find out my three pillars for successfully scaling your OBM biz!

The flexibility of freelance life can look enticing to those of us who want the freedom to be able to choose our own schedule, take a vacation whenever we want, and be our own boss. And I agree, as someone who’s been doing exactly that for the past few years, it is pretty awesome! But what happens when one of your clients cancels on you? If you’re handling 4 clients, that’s 25% of your income! Yikes!

One thing that a lot of OBMs overlook when we’re trying to scale is their own funnels. We can get so caught up in providing the best services to our clients that we unconsciously put our own businesses on the back burner. It’s important to remember to take the time to tighten up your own funnels and keep your pipelines full as a backup plan, so in case one of your retainer clients backs out, you’ll have an Ideal Client lined up leaving you worry-free!

The second common roadblock to scaling your online business is uplevelling… Offering new skills is a great way to justify raising your rates, but what do you do if you don’t feel like you have enough experience to actually offer a new skill as a paid service? It can be hard to feel confident if you don’t feel like you’ve been able to practice that new skill in real time. How do you gain the experience or the confidence that you need to be able to offer your skills to your client?

The answer? Just do it! That’s right, confidence comes from doing and it’s why the OBM School Practice Lab is such a huge part of our Accreditation Program. Not only will you get the experience you need by offering the new skill, but you’ll also get better at it as you keep practicing and get the feedback that you need to improve.

Once you’ve got your pipeline tightened up and you’re armed with the confidence of being able to rock your new skills, the next thing you’ll want to look at is your team. What that looks like could be different, depending on whether you want a full-fledged agency or to simply hire awesome OBMs and VAs to help you with the day to day stuff.

It can be tempting to stay in the solopreneur mindset, especially when you’re used to rocking everything on your own, but if you want to be able to scale your business, you’re going to need an awesome team to help you, a team you can delegate tasks to and trust to get the job done.

By doing all of these, you’ll be on your way to profitably scaling your business in no time. Trust me, you’ll be grateful for all the time this frees up, leaving you to focus on the bigger picture, or taking that impromptu vacation you’ve always wanted to go on!
